AN ETERNAL JOURNEY
Some people in the world lead their life in their own ways. In their quest for enlightenment, worldly pleasures mean nothing to them.Kannadiparambil DivakaraMenon, the resident of the picturesque village named Puthenchira calls himself 'The Walker',perhaps because of the fact that he spent seventeen long years wandering around the country in search of the eternal wisdom.
Walker has an outstanding academic background. His school days were vibrant and colorful and was filled with achievements. His first book 'Veeraputhran' was published when he was in eight standard. Walker completed his B.A in Political Science and Bcom degree in a reputed college where he was in the limelight. He did his post graduation courses in Literature and Political Science outside the state. During this time, his interest turned to IAS and joined for the coaching in Bayantar. Even though he was qualified in the exam, he refused to go for the training as his ideologies were against such bureaucratic positions; and never wanted others to remain under his control. He was against the weapon 'power'.
"Why should I be a bureaucrat? Why should I run behind all such luxuries of life? I feel I should somehow correct the laws of the world .For that, the prime thing I must do is to learn law." These thoughts made him join for LLB. After that he joined for MBA and then for CA. But the mind never stick on to that also.
Walker was a voracious reader and had a library room at home. His keen interest was in reading philosophical and theological books. One day when he was in the midst of sleep, he had a spiritual vision. A divine light (he calls it 'jyoti') appeared and graced, "Not all the books you can give knowledge. Go out and read the vast book that is the world. Only then your life will reach in its completion." This was a new and divine experience for walker and he was highly inspired by those words. The very next day walker left his home with the consent of his parents. His journey for wisdom begins here. He wandered throughout the country for seventeen years and returned to his own place.
Now he is 85. He has a shabby appearance with a long beard, a plastic hat, two bags on the shoulder and a stick in his hand. He leads a beggarly. The chirping of birds wakes him in the morning and then he walks..He walks for kilometers , spend time at his favorite spots(either roadside or treeshade) and in the evening returns back home where he prepares food by himself. Eventhough walker is alone at his home, he says that he is seldom affected by the shadows of isolation as he is accompanied by God and his collection of books.
Today walker is in an aim to publish his book 'Vedamritham', in which he has described the essence of the divine experience which he derived from the fifteen spiritual visions. The work is of 14,000 pages in 21 volumes and it focuses on the enlightenment of the world. "I wait for a heaven on earth and Iam sure that it will happen before I leave this world."
In today's polluted world, an idealistic man like him cannot be happy and may be because of that he lives on the fringes of the mainstream society. Inspite of the various academic achievements in various fields, he chose the the simplest life while others spend their lives in pursuit of wealth and power. It is a fact that people cannot be judged by the worldly yardsticks of money and power. Above all, happiness means different things to different people...
